Ingrown toenail is a common condition in which toenail grows into the tissue on the side of the nail resulting in redness, pain and swelling which can lead to infection.

Causes

Poor nil cutting, nails which are curved inwards and tight-fitting shoes.

Procedure

The full healing takes around 8-10 weeks’ time

The procedure is done by injecting local anesthetic around the base of the toe, the ingrown part of the nail is excised, and chemical ablation is done to prevent the ingrown toe nail from growing back. A dressing is applied at the completion of the procedure.

Post-operative

  1. You shall require pain killers for 2-3 days, scripts of which shall be given
  2. A wound review shall be conducted on day 7 of the procedure when the dressing shall be removed, and a redressing shall be done
  3. A further review is done after 3 weeks from the date of surgery
  4. You are advised to wear open sandals or thongs for 3-4 weeks after the surgery

In cases where there is a regrowth of the ingrown toenail a free of cost second nail surgery can be done
